What conditions can herbal medicine help with?
Herbal medicine is used to help support people suffering from a wide range of problems. Although herbal medicine can be used for acute conditions, such as the common cold, herbalists usually treat people suffering from long term or chronic illness. Can I use herbs to treat myself?
Yes absolutely. Herbs are a great way to help manage minor, self-limiting problems such as colds and mild tummy upsets. However, where a problem is severe, ongoing or complex it is best to seek professional help.
Can I take herbs alongside conventional drugs?
Yes. There can however be an interaction between herbal remedies and some orthodox drugs. It is important to check before you take any herbal remedies alongside your usual medicine. Speak to your GP, Medical Herbalist or Pharmacist first.
How long will my treatment last?
It is not possible to accurately answer this question. Treatment duration will usually take weeks or months. As a general rule the longer a problem exists then treatment will necessarily take longer. I will always discuss this in detail with you during the first consultation.
Can I take herbs whilst pregnant or breastfeeding?
It is best to try and avoid any medications whilst pregnant. Some herbs are certainly contra-indicated during pregnancy and whilst breast feeding. A qualified herbalist will always consider whether or not treatment is in your, and your baby's, best interests. Do not take any herbal remedies without speaking to your GP, midwife, Medical Herbalist or Pharmacist first.
